Board of Directors

The Philomathia Foundation was established in 2004 by the Chung brothers, all of whom share a passion for advancing human knowledge through the support of innovative, forward-thinking individuals and ideas. The Board of Directors invites those with a similar vision to contact the Philomathia Foundation and contribute to its philanthropic activities.

Wilfred Chung

A graduate of McMaster University and the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine, Wilfred Chung is also a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. During his career as an Emergency Physician, Wilfred led the development of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in Cornwall, Ontario, where he later served as Chief of Staff. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph Continuing Care Centre in Cornwall, the Champlain Regional Stroke Network’s Prevention & Acute Care Committee, and the Champlain Regional Trauma Network. In 2006, St. Lawrence College awarded him with an honorary diploma in recognition of his contribution to health care in Eastern Ontario. Wilfred has recently retired from the practice of medicine. He continues to serve as a member of the campaign cabinet to rebuild a new SickKids Hospital in Toronto.

Wing Chung

Wing Chung

Wing Chung received his education in civil engineering in both Hong Kong and the United States. He holds a Master of Science degree from Northeastern University and is a chartered structural engineer in the United Kingdom. Having practiced in Hong Kong, Canada and the United States, Wing is an expert in the design and construction of heavy industrial installations, power stations and air pollution control support structures. A strong believer in human goodwill and an avid promoter of Chinese culture, he has also contributed to the hospital redevelopment at the University of California (Los Angeles) and is a patron of the Glendale Community Foundation of California.

Leslie Chung

Leslie Chung

In his former role as Chief Operating Officer of Atico, Leslie Chung was instrumental in making the company a major trading firm in North America and Asia. He now sits on the boards of various manufacturing companies and serves as a senior advisor to several investment groups. Building on his success in international trade, today Leslie is devoted to the support of education worldwide: facilitating collaboration between Western and Chinese universities, supporting academic research in environmental protection and alternative energy, and tirelessly advocating for greater educational opportunities for the underprivileged. In 2008, Leslie became a fellow of the Guild of Cambridge Benefactors. In 2009, he was awarded an honourary fellowship by the Chinese University of Hong Kong for his dedication to the advancement of higher education.

Victor Chung

Victor Chung

After graduating from the University of California at Los Angeles in civil engineering, Victor Chung became a businessman and was appointed as the representative of an internationally renowned sporting goods company in Hong Kong. His prosperous business included associations with Top Choice Group of Hong Kong, Schram & Company of San Francisco, and High Sierra Ltd. of New York. Fortunate to have found such personal success, Victor strongly believes in the need to give back to the society. He endeavors to support many organizations in different countries regardless of race and religion. Victor has made numerous donations to charitable and educational institutions including his alma mater of UCLA.
