McMaster University

The Philomathia Foundation’s relationship with McMaster University started in 1972 when Wilfred Chung attended the school for his undergraduate studies. Over the years, Wilfred has made a number of personal donations to support McMaster students, including the Chung Family Bursary and the Dawson Prize in Chemistry, named in honour of his undergraduate mentor.

Following discussions with the university’s deans and faculty leaders on issues of major global concern, in May 2012, the Philomathia Foundation established the Philomathia Foundation Water Project at McMaster University. Funding available through this project helped support the creation of a new research chair position for a professor with expertise in engineering and global policy development (with an adjunct appointment to the United Nations University’s Institute for Water, Environment and Health) as well as several research fellowships and travel scholarships for students studying water-related issues.
