Diekara is from Nigeria and completed her MPhil with distinction in 2020, with her dissertation on the recent history of representations of the queer self in Nigerian youth texts. She is now a secondyear PhD student at Harvard University in African and African American Studies, writing about contemporary urban youth cultures and subcultures in Nigeria.
